OUR MISSION

Bringing unseen fine art & antiques to the market

Finding the hidden art of history.

1.

Research & Procurement

We source predominantly pieces known as ‘important’ or ‘fine’ from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Our sourcing partners have decades of experience and provide us with only the very best pieces.

Esoteric knowledge allows us to identify works of art that have remained undiscovered and unappreciated for decades.

2.

Repair & Restoration

Restoration and conservation is central to the Augustus Adams culture.

All works of art, whatever the medium, are historically appraised before entering our workshop, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

The conservation and restoration applied to each piece, deserving of such meticulous attention to detail, is a result of collective research and discussions.

3.

Our Pall Mall, London gallery holds our seasonal collection of art and antiques for sale, with entry by appointment.

HOW WE RANK OUR ANTIQUES

Important. Fine. Good.

It’s not just a category, it’s how you’ll feel owning and using the antiques we find and bring to the market.

1.

Important

Very occasionally we find items for sale that have the best provenance, rarity and condition for an object of their type. Something special, not just in itself but in the story and connections it brings.

The term important would be applicable to a work, whatever the medium, which would be important in the art and collectors circle. Rarity and academic importance play their part. These can be pieces where the artist’s imagination has challenged or changes human feeling, or they can be a piece simply admired as an expression of the maker’s artistic achievement. It is also possible for a piece to be important where its technical prowess is hard to attain, or where its impact changed or revolutionised the opinions of its time.

  • Historical significance
  • Exemplar of the maker’s art
  • Rarity, condition and quality to envy

2.

Fine

Some antiques have beauty and elegance that sets them apart from the everyday, though they do not carry the significance of importance. Fine examples of their art, rare enough to be statement pieces.

Works of art and antiques that fall into this category may not have reached important status, but are well respected and considered fine in terms of their high level of execution. Many fine pieces would have adorned the properties of the aristocracy, business merchants, and the wealthy of the day.

  • Sought after by collectors
  • High levels of execution and finish
  • Well regarded and aspired to in their day

3.

Good

If not the great, then the good. Not even the largest corporate, hotelier or interior design budgets can exclusively purchase Important and Fine Pieces. For project buying, mix it up, to get the volume you need.

Pieces of decorative art or fine art that fall into the good category. Whilst their makers may not have been pioneers in their craft, these pieces are highly decorative and represent the time in history that they were made. Items in this category can easily coexist with and display alongside Important and Fine pieces.

  • Can be sourced more easily
  • Prices attained reflect lower uniqueness
  • Hold their own next to important and fine pieces
